About Medicare
Medicare is a national health insurance program that provides access to high-quality, affordable, medical care for US citizens and lawful permanent residents.
How Medicare Works
You should apply for Medicare Parts A and B starting 90 days before the first day of the month you turn 65.
Medicare (Parts A and B) covers 80% of your medical costs.
- Part A covers hospital stays.
- Part B covers doctor visits and other outpatient care.
After you apply through the Social Security Administration, it could take up to 45 days to get your Medicare card. So don’t wait to apply.
If you qualify for Medicare, there is no cost for Part A. The monthly cost for Part B depends on your income.
Social Security and Medicare are separate programs that require individual enrollments with the Social Security Administration.
Most people apply for Medicare at 65. But many people don’t begin getting Social Security benefits until age 67 — when they are fully eligible.
Karla Flores, a licensed Medicare agent, will work with you to decide how to pay for the 20% of healthcare costs that Medicare doesn’t cover. Your choices are Medicare Advantage (Part C) or a Medicare Supplement plan (Medigap).

What is Medicare Advantage?
Medicare Advantage (Part C) is private insurance that includes hospital (Part A), medical (Part B), and often prescription drug (Part D) coverage in one plan. You are given access to a network of providers. Medicare Advantage can make enrollment easier and possibly lower out-of-pocket costs.
Karla Flores, a licensed Medicare agent, will work with you to compare plans and find the one that fits your needs.
What are Medicare Supplement Plans?
Medicare Parts A and B don’t include deductibles, co-pays and coinsurance. That’s why you get a Medicare Supplement plan (Medigap) to cover the gap. You can also add a Part D prescription drug plan.
Medicare Supplement plans have a monthly premium but usually no co-pays for doctor visits and no network restrictions. You can visit any provider who accepts Medicare.
