During the 2008 real estate crash, I was a realtor and went through a very tough financial stretch essentially losing all my retirement savings and the 401K from a previous corporate job. So I was one of those looking for a career change.
I found a job working as the VP of Marketing for a local dental plan company utilizing my education and background in marketing and business. After four years in that position, I had reached a point where I achieved what was required in my position, was bored with doing the same tasks daily and the income promised was not delivered. I was looking for a career change.
I was introduced to the idea of selling health/life insurance through an agent with IHC Specialty Benefits (IHCSB). I saw that I could run my own schedule, get paid what I was worth and make as much money as I wanted at the same time fulfilling my desire to help people.
I didn’t have an insurance license as my other job did not require one. That was not a problem as IHCSB provided the online pre-licensing course. After passing the exam, I completed the comprehensive training process and followed what I was taught. I received company leads, joined networking groups, chambers of commerce and spread the word that I had a new profession.
After my first nine months with IHCSB, I placed 12th in the company for overall production. After my second year with the company, I placed 2nd in the company for overall production and received the position of Sales Leader to mentor, train and coach other agents. During the next three years, I placed 1st or 2nd in overall production each year. Just as importantly, I replaced what I had lost financially during the crash of 2008 THREE TIMES OVER! A little over two years ago, I became a Regional Sales Leader for AZ, UT, NV and CA. Today, I continue to personally train and mentor new agents to reach their goals and dreams.
As I grew up on the Minnesota lakes, one of my life-long dreams was to live on the water. Because “I was one of those” looking for a career change and I took the opportunity to make my life what I wanted, I now have three homes: one in Queen Creek, AZ plus a condo and home in Rocky Point, Mexico on the Sea of Cortez where I spend most of my time.
I have the freedom and flexibility to live and work where I want and schedule my work time around my life so I can travel for fun and to see my family. Just as important and the “why” I do what I do, is my passion for helping people both in the “crazy” world of health insurance and in mentoring agents to achieve their own goals and dreams.
